I've followed it off and on over the years. In recent times the girls have been super hot, so it's been pretty fun. WWE is bouncing all over cable, so I've given up on trying to follow. I was really enjoying TNA for awhile, Velvet Sky is smokin' hot as are many of the other girls, but they've added way too many old timers in the men's ranks to where now it's like watching a WWE re-run. If anyone knows of any GOOD pro-wrestling out there, please pass the info on.. Thanx.

I agree WWE has some great girls if only the matches would last more than 30 seconds and if only someone could be bothered scripting decent story lines. I've had this moan many times. I actually think there are two reasons why WWE Divas are under used and under valued. First is that WWE's heartland is bible belt USA, and they will not stand for anything too risque, so no fantasy violence like in the men's matches, and little T&A. Secondly is from what I hear most WWE fans PREFER not to see women wrestle. They like to look at eye candy, but most believe wrestling should be left to the guys. I hope that stirs a reaction???
TNA was cracking until as you say old ghosts from the past seem to be taking over. Even in the Knockouts section, though I wouldn't say no to Victoria finding a slot there. She's a great wrestler in my view. I like ODB and Kong. Great characters to have, and a nice balance to Velvet Sky. They need new young talent they do, girls as well as guys. Angelina is fine but heck she is starting to look like maybe she should be hanging up her boots. There are so many sexy great looking girls wanting to try out for pro wrestling, someone somewhere you'd think could find a way to use them for our entertainment. |

Sadly, there is VERY little quality wrestling on TV these days as far as women's matches go. TNA was great a few years ago but they went down the same path WWE has gone for 5 years now. Shove the wome with talent in to the background and give pops to the eye candy and use the same 4 girls over and over and over again in pretty much the same 2 minute match. Its a joke, the commercial breaks are usually longer than the women's matches. Been pathetic for a long time and I dont see it changing.

You're both right and that's too bad, right now TNA has their "crazy chick" story line going on, been done on WWE with both Victoria and Mickie James.
The best TNA story line I can remember was when Ms. Brooks (Traci) was fight over the cowboy dude she was valeting for with some random blonde. The girls were both hot and it was well played, but yeah, that was too many years ago...

when it comes to women's wrestling I much prefer the old stuff (70s & 80s), played for real. There's some great stuff on YouTube with Sherri Martel, Candi Devine etc. The matches in All The Marbles are another favourite. Anything with Magnificent Mimi. I find the WWE a little too `polished'.
I remember at a Butlins holiday camp in the early 80s seeing a wrestling show you would never get away with now. They had two girls go at it for the European `junior' championship, they probably weren't much older than 14. I was about 11 or 12 at the time so this was manna from heaven. Everything about the bout was perfect. The girls were introduced in robes which they stripped off to reveal leotards, one was brunette (and plain looking) the other blonde and very pretty ( i think there was some nationality thing going on as well, i can't remember if the brunette was English or not but I remember they said the blonde was from Denmark because it started a fascination with me for Danish girls) The best bit I remember was between rounds (there were rounds!). The blonde had scored the first pin fall and looked like she was winning & then the brunette equalised and hurt the blonde. She was taken to her corner and still on her stool when the next round began and the brunette was waiting for her, almost standing behind the blonde's cornerman trying to puch past him so as soon as the blonde got to her feet she grabbed her and walked her to the middle of the ring and finished her off. I just thought that was so unfair and got upset that the brunette paraded around the ring with her arms aloft while the blonde received medical attention on the mat. That whole match stayed with me for ages & i seek out any match that reminds me of it (if it's wrestling, it has to have leotards, sitting on stools between rounds, an unfairness about the victory, the palin girl beating the pretty blonde). It was only some time afterwards that I knew the whole thing was fake, the girls were part of a travelling show and probably daughters of the adult wrestler's, they probably wrestled every week in the summer holidays at holiday camps like this and with the same routine, and the blonde was unlikely to have even been Danish and the brunette wasn't recognised by any governing body as the European junior champion! But there was something about NOT knowing that which made it perfect

I like all the old school wrestlers and valets. Huge fan of Sherri Martel. I also love the other other women of the 80s and 90s, like Madusa, Luna, Jacqueline, Baby Doll, Francine Francine, etc.
Since I had a teenage crush on Sherri, nobody compares to her in my book, even if they truly do . Actually Francine may have played a better "bitch" character than Sherri, during the Triple Threat run. As a Sherri fan, you dont know how much it took to admit that . Francine was better than Sherri in '96-'98, thats how I get around that .Then there's some that were clearly copying Sherri, but did great job doing it. Sherri took bumps like the guys, but Jacqueline was actually doing wrestling moves on 'em! Luna probably had the best mixed match ever, in the steel cage against Stevie Richards! |

. Gale Kim is pretty hot. I probably dont watch it enough these days to really know everyone.

Speaking of 30 sec matches, I just can't picture any 120 to 130 lb
woman lasting much longer than that against 272 lb Awsome Kong. True, Gail Kim actually won an encounter, but realistically Kong could have won any of those matches in 30 seconds or less. Poor Daffney at 125 lb was also a joke for Kong. Kong doesn't win all her matches because they have to keep it interesting. Kong could easily defeat both Gail Kim and Daffney together. You probably would have to throw in Velvet Sky as a third girl to even attempt to make it close. |
